Wrtitten for the High Plains Journal
In today’s world seeking the truth is a full time job. It appears everything we are told needs to be verified and folks are quick to tell you what they want you to believe regardless of the truth. This week I have two glaring examples of that and they are just two things that seemingly happen on a daily basis.
If you were with me last week you know that I shared information about the cost of the electric that power Allegiant Stadium for that super bowl. We how about a minute for the rest of the story.
In case you missed it media outlets from coast to coast reported that the Super Bowl 2024 was powered 100% by renewable energy sighting a 25 year contract between Allegiant Stadium and Nevada Energy. First off Nevada Energy happens to be owned by Berkshire Hathaway, it is not your typical electric cooperative.
So after I wrote my column about the narrative that the stadium was 100% fuel by 641, 000 solar panels in the Nevada desert I went look and found out that 58.6% of the Nevada Energy electric generation comes from natural gas and 36.4% comes from what they call renewable sources. Interesting to note that 4% of that renewable comes from Hoover dam and hydroelectric but yet throughout the nation the Feds are knocking out dams producing electricity because they are bad.
So for the past week, every single day I have been reaching out to Nevada Energy and the first couple of days I got the run around and the last 5 days I have been completely ghosted. I just have one simple question.
How do you segregate the electricity produced by the solar panels from the power produced by the natural gas, or for that matter the electricity they generate from coal, 5% of their total electricity. NO ANSWER. The nation has been lied to and soaking it up like the sun rays.
Next blatant lie that I was to share comes from Tom Vilisak the USDA Secretary of Agriculture. Last week while speaking at the USDA Ag Outlook Conference he said:
“Ask yourself whether you’re okay with losing a half million farms in a lifetime. Ask yourself if you’re okay with America losing 165 million acres of land that was in farming that’s no longer in farming. Ask yourself if it’s okay for us to simply focus on the top seven or ten percent?”
First off this may be the first thing this guy has ever said I agree with. Secondly ask yourself who is longest term Secretary of Agriculture in the history of the nation? Vilisak filled that role for 8 years under Obama and is in he fourth year under Biden. So 12 of the last 16 years he has been directing policy. Secondly he is the Champion of 30/30 with goal of returning “farmland and water back to it’s natural state.” How many days does my phone ring with someone telling me how aggressively the USDA is seeking to re-enlist farmland acres in CRP.
This guy has been the Champion for chasing small farmers out of business since he day’s back as Governor of Iowa. In fact I just reminded myself that he single handedly gave my career in the public eye a huge boost as the Iowa Governor because farmers called me to come help them stay in business in the early 2000’s.
My mother continues to tell me today, Trent your actions speak louder than words. Well in today’s world it is quite obvious that most folks trying to drive this shipwreck need a conversation with my mother.
What’s happening’ in 2 weeks? Sorry if I missed hearing about local goings-on…
Well done… thanks for always reminding us to do our research… and thank-you for all of the research that you continue doing..
