Nebraska EPIC "debate" this is more of a railroading than a debate. I am willing to debate the braintrust Halloran & Erdman.

The EPIC “debate” without debate
There is a price to pay for living “the Good Life” in Nebraska and it is Property Tax. We purchased our place nearly 20 years ago and have experienced run-away property tax bills, primarily through increased land values. We understand the need for stability in this regard but “the answer does not reside in the state capital but rather within each county.”
I received an invitation to attend an EPIC Tax debate in Lincoln on May 4, 2024 featuring senators Halloran and Erdman, the two self-proclaimed masterminds of the property tax relief they think we need. Economist Ernie Goss from Creighton University is on the program, but I was told he would only be sharing information and not taking a stand for or against the EPIC option.
I called event organizers and asked who would be representing opposition to the EPIC Tax model. I was told “many people were invited but no one was willing to show up for the debate.”
I quickly volunteered to appear and expressed my concerns about the EPIC Tax and how it would be extremely destructive to Rural Nebraska. I shared that no state has ever put forth a consumption tax to replace existing tax structure yet as we speak Nebraska, North Dakota and Montana are all trying to get it accomplished. In addition, South Dakota is suddenly talking about it. WHY? What happened that no state has accomplished it, yet major agricultural states are all trying it right now?
I volunteered to the debate because they said, “all others refused to debate the issue” however, their response was, “I will talk to the board and get back to you.”
I received an email 24 hours later letting me know I was welcome to attend as media but the speaker panel was full. Why are the authors, who claim no one is willing to debate, suddenly not willing to allow a fellow Nebraskan to initiate an honest discussion about the future of a vibrant Rural Nebraska?
I will be in attendance and I am willing to discuss, anytime and anywhere, why the EPIC Tax is indeed the plan for an EPIC FAIL!
