I am writing this on Memorial Day 2024 from a softball tournament in Blue Springs, MO. If you were to rewind the reels of my life, this is the one thing I have done on Memorial Day more than anything else. Back when I was playing fastpitch softball, Memorial Day weekend always involved the core group gathering on the sides of the diamond. When our daughters started playing, it went big, really big. But honestly this weekend has really sent my mind into overtime about the concept of Memorial Day and how so many don’t pause and say a prayer for peace as was the original intent of Decoration Day.
I have been saying for quite some time that this Memorial Day will be different, and by different I mean that more people than ever are now questioning the true motivations of war. I truly believe that war is clearly controlled by a few of the money folks in the world and most of what we have been told about the dictators that lead our brave soldiers into battle is based on lies.
I do not share that with you to diminish in any way, shape or form the service and sacrifice of the men and women who have given the ultimate for our freedoms. I am just noting that we often don’t really understand who we are actually fighting against. However, there is never any confusion about who they are dying for.
I found this very interesting summary written by Aaron Oneill a researcher at Statista and I thought it was worthy of sharing:
In terms of the number of deaths per day, the American Civil War is still at the top, with an average of 425 deaths per day, while the First and Second World Wars have averages of roughly 100 and 200 fatalities per day respectively. Technically, the costliest battle in U.S. military history was the Battle of Elsenborn Ridge, which was a part of the Battle of the Bulge in the Second World War, and saw upwards of 5,000 deaths over 10 days. However, the Battle of Gettysburg had more military fatalities of American soldiers, with almost 3,200 Union deaths and over 3,900 Confederate deaths, giving a combined total of more than 7,000. The Battle of Antietam is viewed as the bloodiest day in American military history, with over 3,600 combined fatalities and almost 23,000 total casualties on September 17, 1862.
When you stop for a moment and think about the 425 Americans that died every day during the Civil War and who exactly were we fighting in that bloody battle? Our own family members! How were we led into that place?
It is truly fitting that as I was gathering thoughts on how to put this piece together about the much-needed Decoration for those who gave it all, I received a text from my brother in Christ, Marty Beard from North Dakota. It simply says: Ezekiel 37 1-10.
Let me share with you just verses 9 and 10. As Ezekiel was visiting with God, here is the message he was given:
9 Then he said to me, “Prophesy to the breath; prophesy, son of man, and say to it, ‘This is what the Sovereign Lord says: Come, breath, from the four winds and breathe into these slain, that they may live.’” 10 So I prophesied as he commanded me, and breath entered them; they came to life and stood up on their feet—a vast army.
Folks we are the winds to breathe life into what the slain have contributed for us in the name of Liberty. We must enjoy the opportunity to play softball, or boat or rodeo every weekend if we so choose. However, if we continue to take it for granted it will swiftly be stolen from us. Please join me this year, 2024, in the name of Memorial Day, to unite in prayer for those that enable our freedom and expose the true corruption of those pulling the strings to keep peace but a dream.
Hey Trent...
One just received you may add to your quiver. A long one but full of truth....reasons for why not winning, but I don't think we are in the same ballpark.
